چکیده

This paper proposes eSpaceML as a representation scheme for annotating eventdriven spatial expressions in natural language. It adopts SpatialML (MITRE, 2009) and ISO-Space (ISO, 2010) as a basis for the development of a novel, distributed spatial annotation scheme. SpatialML focuses on the annotation of spatial locations and their topological relations, while both ISO-Space and eSpaceML attempt to extend the scope beyond the treatment of toponyms. ISO-Space and eSpaceML also link space to events in various ways but with considerable differences. Unlike ISO-Space, which attempts to provide a self-contained framework for the various links, eSpaceML treats them in a distributed manner, operating as a pivotal system that refers to several other established annotation schemes such as MAF (ISO, 2008) and ISO-TimeML (ISO, 2009c) for morphosyntactic as well as temporal-eventual annotations.

Corpus annotation with a linguistic analysis of the associations between event mentions and spatial expressions

Recognizing spatial information associated with events expressed in natural language text is essential for the proper interpretation of such events. However, the associations between events and spatial information found throughout the text have been much less studied than other types of spatial association as looked into in SpatialML and ISO-Space. In this paper, we present an annotation framew...

A Pattern Approach for Biomedical Event Annotation

We describe our approach for the GENIA Event Extraction in the Main Task of BioNLP Shared Task 2011. There are two important parts in our method: Event Trigger Annotation and Event Extraction. We use rules and dictionary to annotate event triggers. Event extraction is based on patterns created from dependent graphs. We apply UIMA Framework to support all stages in our system.

SMAT: Synchronous Multimedia and Annotation Tool

We describe the design and use of SMAT (Synchronous Multimedia and Annotation Tool), a tool designed to be part of a scientific collaboratory for use in a robotic, arcwelding research project at the National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST). The primary functional requirements of SMAT are to provide the capability to capture, synchronize, play back, and annotate multimedia data in a...

An Efficient Event Definition Framework for Retail Sector Surveillance Systems

Event representation models provide a framework in which we can reason about events so as to interpret the collective behaviour of objects over time and space domains. Many are context-specific and lack flexibility when faced with unstructured video. In the past many efforts have been made to define a comprehensive event description framework (EDF), which can provide a framework to develop onto...
